Carnal Moon
Gwen’s heart pounded as she entered the living room. Her breath caught at the sight of Nick as he turned seductive eyes towards her. So many things about him attracted her. Why must he be a vampire?
“Tell me what’s wrong.” Nick stood by the couch with burning sapphire eyes on Gwen.
After a deep breath, Gwen said in a rush of words, “Did you do something to me at dinner?” And did his power cause her attraction to him?
“Yes,” Nick replied evenly. “I can’t rouse suspicion by not eating. Keeping vampires secret comes first.”
“What did you do?” Gwen tried to recall the images, but they slipped away. “The memory is hazy.” She knew they talked about Artfelt, but she couldn’t remember specifics.
“Your perception was altered.” Nick remained motionless, as if aware of her cageyness. “I said to not worry about me eating. Then we talked. Manipulating you wasn’t enjoyable.” His eyes hardened. “I downright hated it.”
Indecision warred in Gwen. She wanted to believe Nick. His words sounded so sincere. However, the ability of mind-control frightened her. What else was he capable of? “Are you causing my attraction to you?”
Nick wore a patient smile. “No, that’s all you.” He tilted his head. “Why would I want someone who must be constantly influenced into liking me? How tedious and boring. While I may be a dominant man, but I have no interest in controlling you.”
