"I may have the evidence for that within thirty days. He has a speaking engagement on June 30th in Raleigh. When he comes home from that, I will have a photographer planted at the airport observation deck. We plan to photograph the unloading of the plane and follow the van that takes the boxes of money."
"That sounds dangerous, dear," said Shirley.
"No, we will stay a safe distance behind. He will never know we're there."
"Who is going to follow Serino?" asked Chuck. "Remember Dave told us some of the boxes go into the trunk of his car. Wouldn't that be the more incriminating photo?"
"Maybe Tom and I could follow his car to see where he goes." Shirley looked at Tom with a raised eyebrow, "What do you think? Want to play spy with me?"
"I could be tempted. I always loved Jim Garner's PI show on TV. We just watch and keep a safe distance away, right?"
"Chances are he will go straight home and it will be uneventful," explained Chuck. "I think the IRS would love to see a photo of boxes of money being placed into his trunk. He would have some explaining to do."
"Well, at least we have a first strike with Tom. If he goes to the county and builds a relationship with the zoning people then Serino will be delayed in causing trouble. And, it gives me more time to do a good job." Marti leaned over to squeeze Tom's hand.
"Wonderful. I feel better already. I still think a public concert would be a great way to show our neighbors we are part of this community. My friends are ready to come in August."
"Oh, Aunt Shirley, I have one of the TV reporters from WKGP coming over tomorrow. She wants a tour of Whispering Palms, and we want to pump her for information about Serino. Tom, could you give her a golf cart tour?"
"You bet. That would be great getting some exposure for this place."
"I've been thinking. I wonder if we partnered with a non-profit on this concert, would it make a difference. I might talk the Greenville MS Society into co-sponsoring."
"That's not a bad idea, Auntie, "Especially if Charlene gave MS patients and family members a discount on the short-term rentals. It would be a way of giving back to the community."
After reading the Sunday paper in bed the next morning, Marti grabbed her laptop to write down some questions she would like to ask Sarah. "Do you have any questions for Sarah, Chuck? It would be smart to have input from several people."
"I want to know what her local perception is of Serino. I suspect he keeps a low profile here serving as the 'father figure' to his flock but leaving the real work to his staff. He has to keep moving to draw in the money for himself. I'd never heard of him till I worked at the airport."
Before their conversation ended, Marti's cell phone rang. "That's her," she said looking at her cell screen. "I'll let her in the gate and we'll go meet her at the clubhouse."
Taking her pen and pad, Marti left with Chuck. She waved to Shirley letting her know that Sarah had arrived. They saw her locking up her car at the clubhouse entrance.
"You didn't mention she was a gorgeous blonde," Marti said looking at Chuck, "And wearing next to nothing."
"Gorgeous blondes are a dime a dozen," Chuck replied placing his hand at her back.
