“Dr. Mao, no!” Somehow Sam knew what the Doctor was going to do before Mao did. She tried to stop him as he reached for the vials, but she was too late.
“My life’s work!”
He threw the first one in the sink.
“I invested everything into this!”
He threw the second one, and this time it shattered. Cindy watched in horror as the contents drained from the broken vial into the drain.
“Stop! Stop!” Sam grabbed Mao’s arms and pinned them to his side before he could reach for a third vial of the poison. “Somebody press the emergency button! He has to be stopped!”
Mao broke free and managed to fling one more vial into the sink as Cindy dashed to the emergency alert button and pulled the trigger. Sam and one of the other assistants, Mark, tackled Mao and pinned him to the ground.
The world erupted into pure chaos. Men in hazmat suits came in and dragged them all into isolation rooms where they would stay for the next week under observation. With a drug like the one Mao and his team were working on, even if it failed all tests, they couldn't take any risks.
