The grin on the man’s face became a darkened smile. “I was sent to… find the Guardian.” He grabbed the door by the handle, yanking on the handle. Linx pressed the locking mechanism, but that wasn’t enough to stop the man from easily ripping the door completely off the frame of the car. Linx stared at him wide-eyed, his anger overcoming his fear temporarily.
“You son of a bitch! Do you know how long it took for me to get this car to work?!” He stepped out of the car, his boots clicking on the ground. Linx shrugged his light jacket off, tossing it behind him into the car. “I’m going to kick your ass!” He didn’t care about the razor blade teeth, or the man’s height. He just wanted his door to his car back.
This guy... whatever he was, he was tall. Linx has misjudged his height from inside the car. The man was WELL into his eighth foot. That alone made Linx more than certain that he wasn't dealing with a human. I wondered what they fed this guy to get him so big. Linx chuckled softly to himself. He glanced over, noticing that John had gotten out of the car on the other side, his face extremely tense.
The man threw the car door over to the other side of the road, the grim smile still plastered on his face. He shifted into a fighting pose that resembled a feral beast. “Come on then, kid. I'll letcha have the first punch. Give me your best shot.”
“…Sure, why not.” Linx shrugged, throwing a solid right hook to his face. It connected hard enough that Linx knew he would be icing it for a few days. He pretty sure that if he hit a human with the force he used, they would have been knocked unconscious. The man staggered back a couple of steps, clutching at his face. He looked up at me, his eyes alight with bewilderment and fury. “That…. That actually hurt, you son of a bitch.” His voice had somehow gotten deeper, more feral.
Linx grinned, absentmindedly rubbing his already bruised fist with his other hand. “Of course it hurt, you idiot. What did you expect it to do, tickle?” Linx heard John laugh, but he never took his eyes off of this…thing.
“You… You are supposed to be nothing more than a mere human! You should not be capable of hurting me!” It was so angry that spittle flew with each word it shouted. Linx frowned, wondering for all of a second what the thing meant by my being ‘a mere human’.
The lights flickered overhead as the shadows lengthened further in the twilight. The thing’s face began to contort, slowly becoming more and more massive. Horns began to sprout from his forehead like the roots of a tree, its features contorting into something resembling a goat. Silver hair sprouted from its face and anywhere else visible, its body shifting slowly from its human form. John moved around the car, then, standing beside Linx. “We should go.”
“What? And let this thing chase us through town?” Linx said under his breath.
“Alright, good point. Uh… plans?” John said as the beast grew another two feet before their eyes.
“Well… we’ll think of something, right?”
The now giant beast looked down on them, its breath fogging up the night. The entire body had transformed, and now resembled a Minotaur that lived in the snow. “Well, shit,” was all John could say. Linx nodded silently in agreement.
“You are facing your worst nightmare, Guardian... and now, it’s time for me to rip your head off and feast on your power inside!” With that the beast charged towards them, opening its maw to incite fear. Linx panicked, battling with his pride to stay and fight or run and hide. John had moved in front of Linx, and braced for impact of the giant beast.
