Maybe I was a mutant dropped here at birth, Superman style. That would explain a lot, except, if that were the case I should possess some kind of superpowers. Unfortunately, unless they were very obscure, I sincerely doubted I possessed anything that even came close to a superpower. Maybe I should experiment more— try to breath under water or stop time or build an iron suit or something. How much would it stink to have a superpower and die without ever experiencing the thrill of using it against the forces of evil?
Maldova flew sullenly, ten feet behind me, griping unceasingly. “What if I want to go home and watch Storage Wars today? What about me and what I want to do? I don’t want to be here. We shouldn’t be here. It is not right what we are about to do. It will change things and things shouldn’t be changed.”
