Linsora jumped, upending a chair and small table, when the door to her room crashed open. Two burly men, obeying Gordek’s wishes to the letter, pulled her out of the room and up the winding corridor to the bridge of the ship. Offering resistance was a waste of energy, but her first and blinding instinct when being forced someplace was to put up at least a token struggle, making their entry through the small entrance to the bridge difficult.
“Why do you do that? You could have just asked me to join you, you know.” She pulled away from their grip.
“You never cease to require a reminder of your position, my dear. It’s just that simple,” Gordek said, indicating a seat next to his. “We’re approaching Tokorel’s solar system and time for you do your part. Once they detect two Khizaran ships approaching, you’ll have to talk fast and hope they believe you.”
“I thought you had some kind of plan in mind for getting into Tokorel.”
“I do and you’re it.”
“Didn’t you say you weren’t exactly welcomed back to Tokorel?”
“I was asked to leave, that’s true, but not under the name Gordek. Don’t worry about that. You just have to get us there. Present your credentials, the reason for the trip, and request an audience with the Director.”
