“Harda, I value our relationship. And I can appreciate this young woman’s distress. But, I…”
Harda’s voice rose, “Do not dare tell me you cannot help! I am second in the power structure of Tokorel. Yes I will pull rank. And no I do not, I repeat, DO NOT appreciate not being kept apprised of what goes on here. Your funding depends on me, don’t forget that.”
The two men stood facing each other, continuing the argument in loud Tokorellan. Linsora understood little, but eventually caught the general drift of the conversation. They were debating the proprieties of politics, chain of command, and control. She watched, her fury at the small mindedness of both of them rising.
“Enough! Both of you!” she shouted in Khizaran, then again in Merc. “I have risked my life to come here to find the man I am Sealed to. You have no idea what I’ve been through. I don’t give a damn about your research. I don’t give a damn about politics. I want to know about Permac. I want to know now.”
