“What are you doing!” the woman screamed.
Assuming that she was talking to her son, Gary began to speak. “He’s fine. Don’t be too hard on him.”
The woman dropped her bags on the ground, sending clothing slumping out onto the concrete. She picked up her son and said, “Are you alright? Did that man hurt you?” Then she turned to Gary and screamed, “Don’t you ever touch my son again. What is the matter with you? Why would you try kidnapping my son?”
“Kidnap…” Gary sputtered.
The woman had placed the phone back up to her ear. “Hello? Yes I need the police here immediately,” the woman was screaming into her phone. Her son continued to cry and started crying even louder than before each time his mother yelled. “You, sir,” she yelled at a husky young man passing by. “This man tried to kidnap my son. The police are on the way. Don’t let him run away!”
“But I didn’t…” Gary found himself being put into a bear hug by the very strong young man and fought the urge to struggle.
Within minutes, a police car pulled up on the nearby sidewalk and was closely followed by two others. The first officer to arrive got out of the car and walked over to the hysterical woman.
