The couple walked out the door and hopped into Gary’s new car. They traveled downtown and stopped for breakfast. Gary remembered that he still had the hundred dollars that he had found the day before and was ready to impress his lady, but then she took out a large wad of rolled up bills and said, “I’ll pay for breakfast.”
Gary had heard of this happening, and had actually seen it in movies, but he had never thought it would happen to him. His jaw had dropped and he stood there, mouth agape, staring at what Stacy was holding. “Where? Where did you?” he stammered.
“I’m sorry,” Stacy said. “I thought that you understood that the Society pays very well. Basically you have an unlimited amount of funds when you work for them but then you have a limited amount of self respect.”
Gary had heard something like this before from Dom and then again when he read Sal’s diary. Stacy just confirmed it.
“Huh. Yugin told me that he wouldn’t give me a paycheck,” Gary said.
“And he won’t,” Stacy replied. “The money will just be there, and more, whenever you need it.”
