He opened his eyes and immediately turned, running into a young woman, knocking her back a few steps.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa there buddy,” the woman said putting her hands in front of her. “Not cool. You don’t just run into people like that. What is wrong with you?”
“I’m so sorry,” Gary pleaded. “You’re right. I should look where I’m going. I’m a dolt.”
“A dolt?” the woman chuckled. “Who says that?”
Gary looked at the woman who was now smiling. She looked oddly familiar. “Char?” he asked. “Is your name Char?”
“Um, yeah,” the woman said and stopped smiling. “Who are you?”
“Char, it’s me, Gary Winslow. You know, from high school. Don’t tell me you don’t remember.” Gary was excited to see an old friend, but he wasn’t sure if his old friend remembered.
The young woman looked closely at Gary, narrowing her eyes. “Aren’t you the guy that hung out with Stacy all the time?”
