“Don’t care for churches,” he said, rolling and lighting another cigarette. “Mom took me to a little community church. It was okay, but don’t believe in goin’ to church now. They’re all hypocrites. Go to church on Sunday and act like pious saints. Hold themselves up as God’s people leadin’ others to Him. But look at them. They’d just as soon cheat you as greet you. Don’t trust any of them.”
I smiled up at him. I’d never been to church, so I didn’t know. But Uncle Deb had been there. And he saw everything when his mom took him, so he should know.
