How to Gain Nothing From This Book
I’m going to teach you how to meditate from a lot of different angles. Contrary to what you may have heard, there are infinite angles from which to begin. Where appropriate, I’ve added some suggestions for journaling, reflection and further meditation. The reason that I ask you to pause and do some reflection is that it takes more than words to understand the teachings. I’ve spoken for hours on retreats and in workshops, thinking I was crystal clear the whole time and that everyone was getting it. But when I quizzed the group, I found out that students were overwhelmed with the amount of information and unfamiliar with the Dharma being presented. Over the years, I’ve learned to break things down into smaller chunks, and ask people to pause and reflect on them before skipping ahead.
