Shannon made for the front entrance, but caught the smell of cafeteria food drifting over the hallway. Her stomach grumbled like a bear waking from hibernation, rousing a ravenous appetite in Shannon, unlike anything she’d known. She wanted food. She needed food.
All right. She’d stop, but just long enough to grab a bite. And then she’d return to her quick escape.
An hour later, Shannon shuffled along, still dizzy and clumsy, but undiscovered, out of the hospital. Perhaps no one had thought she’d escape to the cafeteria. Hah.
