On February 22, 2014, the Yanukovich government in Ukraine was overthrown as a result of the “Maidan” revolution. On March 1, after his exile, Viktor Yanukovych asked Russia to use its armed forces "to establish law, peace, law and order, stability and protect the people of Ukraine." On the same day, Vladimir Putin appealed to the Russian parliament for permission to send Russian troops to the territory of Ukraine and received approval from the Federal Assembly of the country. After a brilliant operation, Putin in one day gained complete control over the Crimean peninsula.
On March 6, 2014, the Crimean parliament voted to join the Russian Federation with the rights of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation. Later, a referendum was held in which the following questions were raised: would the inhabitants of the peninsula like to join Russia as its subject or they would like to restore the Crimean Constitution of 1992 and remain part of Ukraine. The overwhelming majority voted for the annexation of the Crimea to Russia. However, Western leaders and politicians cast a vote on these elections, and the Crimea’s accession is still considered illegal. The reason for these doubts is not in the desire to protect the integrity of the borders of the Ukrainian state. However, in the fact that the US-NATO bloc is losing a very attractive springboard for deploying its armed forces in the heart of the Black Sea, which would give them full control over the movement of Russian military and civilian ships destination. Many other advantages promised them the deployment of bases in the Crimea.
Putin’s talent as commander in chief ruined their plans - he won this battle without a single shot! Today, unfortunately, even the Russian press does not write about it decently, but it will be dozens of years to pass, and historians will write about this excellent battle event. Maybe then the reliable historical assessment will be given to the genius of this great commander of modernity!
On March 18, 2014, Russia and the Crimea signed an agreement on the accession of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation. The General Assembly of the United Nations, which should stand up for the defence of the legitimate interests of the peoples, voted in favour of a statement stating that the reunification of Crimea and Russia was illegal. The reason, again, is that in the United Nations there are representatives of countries that have been bought and zombied by the US-NATO bloc, which use double standards in solving many issues, and not the letter of the law!
