Fear constricted her voice. If she cried out, she wondered, would the animal attack? On the other hand, she might lie here for days if she didn’t. Realizing this, she screamed, “I’m down here!”
Bradford heard her desperate cry and bent over, shining a torch in the hole. “Laura, are you all right? It looks like you have some friends to keep you company.”
With terror in her eyes, she slowly looked around to see Tabby curled up next to her three new kittens. The mother cat had been missing since the previous evening, and Nanny suspected she must have had her litter. Laura burst out laughing when she realized that when she had fallen into the well, she probably had scared the poor mama cat and her kittens even more than Tabby’s eyes had frightened her.
