Bradford looked up quickly at the rushing water ahead of them. He was startled to see the water cascading down a narrow set of rocks into a stream of white foam. He quickly grabbed the paddle and began to beat the water. His face was tense as he let the canoe follow the rapids. Sitting in the front of the canoe with her back to the rapids, Laura felt the water fly up, soaking her hair and dress. She tied to relax but felt her hands anxiously grip the sides of the canoe. She thought the canoe would roll over at any moment as the water swirled around, seeming to engulf them. Just when she thought the canoe would tip over into the white foam, Bradford skillfully set the canoe straight. Then, without warning, the canoe came to still water again.
“That was fun!” Laura cried as she laughed loudly. Then she became self-conscious as she surveyed how her wet dress clung to her shapely body.
