“Paz de Dios, the peace of God,” Brother Santana said. He gripped the silver chalice, full of wine, the color of his ruby ring. At that moment, Salvador realized, Brother Santana never got sent away or punished for his abuse of Salvador and his friends. They only sent him to a new church, this fancy Catedral in Santiago. A familiar voice, El Diablo, the Devil, whispered to Salvador.
“Now’s your chance to pay him back,” the Devil said. Salvador’s heart raced. Santana never paid for his abuses, but Salvador paid with his soul.
