That morning when I woke up, I took a good look at myself hiding under the covers with a bunch of stuffed animals. I knew that I was tougher than this. I was going to save my dad no matter what. I would promise that witch across the street whatever she wanted to get the potion that my dad needed. I no longer cared how bad the promise would be.
With my newfound courage, I peeled the covers back and jumped out of my bed so quickly that my stuffed animals flew to the floor. I left them lying there. I slipped on my shoes, tied them tight, and then grabbed all of the clues I had drawn so Mrs. McBecky could see that I had proof she was a witch. I walked out my front door and straight across the street. There was no hiding in the dark this time.
