Mentors have the opportunity and responsibility to call out greatness in the life of the mentee. Mentors can also help mentees dream big and point them to opportunities that honor and exercise their giftedness. As mentors, we must be purposeful in the ways we call out greatness in our mentees and also in defining the parameters of how we guide a mentee and answer our own calling. Our Call is to love like Jesus, which means the most treasured gift you can give is to love like Him. Use the acronym CALL to define your mission as a mentor. Let’s discuss the components.
C stands for Chemistry. In the core of your being, the Holy Spirit uses a spiritual gravitational pull to guide you to the person God calls you to mentor. Just as Paul found a natural tugging toward Priscilla and Aquila, so too did I towards Laura. We found the pull to be mutual and that unity laid the groundwork for the relationship. Chemistry bonds a mentor and mentee when it is rooted in the leading of the Holy Spirit, our great Counselor and Guide.
As a mentor, you can ignite this part of your journey by placing yourself in position to make connections with those in need of a mentor. The community of the church begs for such kinship. When we lock arms with other women in the roll-up-your-sleeves-because-we-are-in-this-together mentality, we assemble a team for the journey: guides, protectors, coaches, and companions. A team with multiple members encourages and uplifts both mentor and mentee for a well-equipped journey because it allows for more than one voice to speak into the mentee’s life. This gives everyone the necessary support for the road ahead.
When we diligently pray for chemistry, God will begin His stirring to masterfully bring together
His beloved mentor with His beloved mentee.
