Jane hesitated for a moment and then continued. “I thought he was so sweet, but I was wrong.” Jane looked up at the ceiling, searching for the right words. “We went to dinner and it was going great. I ordered the tacos and he just settled for some tortillas. We had a nice talk – everything was fine. Then…” she paused, “well, I lied to you, Dad. I’m sorry.”
“Tell me the truth, Jane. I’m not mad.”
“Mallard doesn’t go to my school. He’s in college. He goes to State.” Peter nodded his head. Jane gave him a curious look and said, “I smell poop. Do you smell poop?”
“I crapped my pants, honey. It’s okay, go on. I know Mallard isn’t in high school.”
