Apart from Geologic time, historians tend to divide human history into “ages”, named after whatever material people were working with at the time. The first of these was, of course, the ‘Stone Age’ – though, in point of fact, there’s always been a certain amount of debate as to whether the first tools of man were stones or bones. The topic is, as is the way with much scientific debate, a bitter and divisive one, and there is little love lost between the ‘stoners’ and the ‘boners’ ... (I’ll leave it for you, gentle reader, to imagine some of the slurs these people throw at one another.)
For now, though, the ‘stoners’ appear to have the upper hand (possibly because the ‘boners’ are using both of theirs.)
