“I want to go to the top of the Jungfrau.”
“You realize to get to the top you have to take a train six and a half kilometers through a tunnel cut in the middle of a glacier. We’ll be sur-
rounded above and below and on both sides by a thick wall of ice. Won’t that be a bit claustrophobic? Remember how you felt in the pyramids,” Georgina reminded him.
“It’s the top of the world, Georgina. I think I’ll risk it.” And that settled it.
They took that train through the glacier together. But as the train rolled
forward, drawing them through thick walls of ice, it was Georgina who got claustrophobic. Colin was gentle with her fear. It was the time before his anger destroyed more than they could ever have imagined.
