Kate was sixteen at the time. Her parents had divorced when she was four. Now here she was suspended between their love and strength. Would they be enough to hold her through this? “I don’t want her hospitalized in a psychiatric inpatient unit,” Cyrus told Georgina. “Can you manage here? I can come evenings to relieve you.”
“I agree. I want her home where I can be with her all the time. While Kate’s suicidal, I don’t trust anyone with her life but us.”
“She needs twenty-four-hour-a-day supervision; she must never be left alone,” Cyrus cautioned Georgina.
Colin listened to this discussion from across the room. How will this affect my life? he wondered.
Georgina glanced over at him and asked herself, Will Colin help us? He hadn’t yet bailed on them, and Kate still thought of him as one of the pillars supporting her. They didn’t know he was already crumbling.
