Not much movement, but after a few groans, yawns, and eye rubs, she said, “Where were you last night?”
as she struggled to sit upright.
“I stopped by the old Ark on the Sunnyside campus. I was on my way home, so I decided to reminisce about the old b-ball games I used to see there. Luckily, someone left a back door open, and I got inside.
That Ark is still an amazing place. What would you like for breakfast?”
She’ll never know how amazing. So far, so good. I wasn’t lying, so I didn’t feel like I was pressing. Also, it wasn’t like I was trying to buy her off, I was the breakfast chef anyway.
“Bullshit. What do you mean; you went to the old ‘Ark’? Please.”
“Actually, a thousand dollar hooker jumped in the car at a light, and said the first time was free.”
“No, really,” I said. You know I’m more of a basketball junkie than ever. It was cool.” More like chilly, I thought. “Which story do you think is closer to the truth?” Perhaps, I overdid the contrast.
“You really stopped by the Ark?”
I guess my bob and weave worked, “Yes!” I said.
Trust is a very good thing. Also, Genna knows how seriously I took her threat to take a sharp knife to my privates while I slept, should I ever get caught in the latter scenario.
