Finding Your Destiny
While I was working in Northern California and we were living in Texas my wife visited me and we went to China Town in San Francisco where my wife shopped for souvenirs as I waited outside. There was a lot of foot traffic but something drew my attention to the sidewalk.
There a mother sparrow busily herding her baby away to avoid being stepped on. When she was sure he was safe, she would fly a short distance away and call to him. At first, he could not see her and she would have to fly back to protect him from walkers. She never took her eyes off him. Eventually, he would catch on and fly to her. She kept gradually increasing the distance. Then after several minutes of this she flew across the street and up to top of a two-story building. He saw her on top of the building but was afraid to try to fly to her. Like a good mother she made a couple of trips back to protect him. At a certain point she stayed where she was and with a herculean effort he took off and flew to her. They perched together on top of the building and looked down on the crowd.
At this time I had recently finished reading Song of Songs by Watchman Nee. It was a similar story with the bride in the Song of Songs symbolizing the bride of Christ. The bride and groom are happy in their bridal chamber. When, the groom leaves the bride looks for him all night long and goes to the city. But eventually she finds him with the help of the people in town. Each time it gets harder to find him. Eventually he calls her to join him on the mountain tops, the ground of ascension where she can see things from his viewpoint.
For most people finding your destiny is similar to this but they never quite reach the mountain tops. They call to God and He does come back but His real place is on the mountain tops. Ineffectively we can spend more time calling to Him to come down than trying to reach Him and we see things from our viewpoint rather than His.
