A Major Error in Judgement Made By “The Governing Body”
In the mid 1960’s in the African country of Malawi, thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses were raped, beaten, homeless, or dead. Malawian Witnesses suffered unspeakable terror due to following the Watchtower’s policy that forbid them to hold a political card in a one party state. But during the same period, Witnesses in Mexico were permitted to bribe officials for a Cartilla card in order to escape military service. 2 opposite rulings were allowed to stay in effect at the same time.
The witnesses in Mexico customarily would bribe a military official to fill out this card stating that “they have completed their military instructions.” The Watchtower Society informed the Witnesses in Mexico that doing so is strictly “A Matter of Individual Conscious.” “The Governing Body” allowed Witnesses in Mexico to illegally bribe officials, while at the same time holding others to a policy that resulted in rapes, beatings, homelessness, and slaughter.
