“Cora, you have to be on your toes around Brent. You seem to always step into it when he is around,” Julie said.
“I do. What is it about him?” Cora wondered aloud as she raised an eyebrow.
“Maybe you being uncomfortable around him is actually a little crush in disguise?” Julie inquired.
“Who has a crush?” Brent said as he came up behind Cora.
Julie was now laughing and resisting a response. Cora was bright red and unable to find any words.
“Cat got your tongue, Cora?” Brent said. When she didn’t respond, he added. “Hey, I forgot to thank you for keeping me company at dinner last night.” Julie was still laughing and Cora had gone mute so Brent, with a proud of himself smile, gestured he was relenting as he threw his hands in the air and walked back into his office.
“Dinner? Really!? No wonder you are cranky. It’s ok. Brent tends to eat pretty late and he likes to drag people along. I should have warned you about that,” said Julie as she regained her composure. “So about this crush?”
Cora interrupted, “I do not have any feelings for the man. Period. I also have no intention of developing any. In fact, I plan to stay as far away from him as possible,” she bristled as she stomped off. Julie was now laughing again. However, she wasn’t about to burst Cora’s bubble and tell her that it was already too late. Cora would have to find that out on her own.
