Before the Old Crone crossed the threshold of the room a still voice uttered, “Penance you have shown and forgiven you are. Home you shall never see.” The voice was powerful, peaceful, and final.
Upon hearing this, the Old Crone paused in her place and gave a hissing sound that caused Morgaine to wince as she hung her head low in resignation and acknowledgement of the fact that her eternal grandmother had passed final judgment.
The second that the Old Crone was out of the room Josephine looked at her daughter in fear and asked, “What happened?”
Morgaine allowed her head to hit the table before muttering, “Someone I haven’t heard from in centuries, mom.”
A confused state of mind led Josephine to ask, “What?”
Morgaine raised her head slightly from the table and looked at Josephine and said, “That was Mother Danu. She passed judgment,” Morgaine finished with tears brimming in her cinnamon eyes. The solemn words heavy with the pain of centuries past.
