Writing in Community is a book of inspiration and encouragement for writers who want to reach deep within themselves and write to their fullest potential. There is magic in a successful writing group. This book helps writers tap into that magic, and with gentle wisdom and humor, experience unprecedented breakthroughs in creativity.
Becky's writing group has meant a lot to her. She loves the energy and synchronicity of using the generative process in the writing group to take her creativity to new heights. A longtime educator, poet and essayist, Becky draws the inspiration for her writing from the magic and wisdom of being present in the world. The strength and beauty of people continue to amaze her, and their guidance has been her best teacher. Her book, co-authored with Lucy Adkins, Writing in Community: Say Goodbye to Writer's Block and Transform Your Life, won the 2014 Silver Independent Publishers Award in Writing/Publishing. Sometimes we limit our power because we think we're not enough. Does it matter what we think and write - who really cares? BUT it does matter.
Writing down our stories and thoughts helps us to open to what's bubbling inside. Julia Alarez, recipient of the National Medal of Arts for her storytelling, said, "I write to find out what I'm thinking. I write to find out who I am. I write to understand things."

Writing in Community
We, as individual writers, as citizens of the world, may not be imprisoned or in hiding, but we all face aspects of our lives in which we feel powerless. We have love relationships gone awry, children lost to drugs or mental illness, parents who have been dealt the blows of cancer or dementia. We have dreams which have not come true, and we live in a country divided and a world in which there is pain, famine, and injustice. In the face of all this, we are just one person. But we are one person with a pen or a computer keyboard, and we strongly believe that through writing, we can become empowered.
