“Happy birthday!” Everyone shouted when I came out of the bathroom.
I froze like a deer in the headlights, unsure of what the hell was going on. All the lights were out in the tattoo parlor, besides a small glow near the register. “Okay, so, what the hell?” I asked, afraid to move, wondering if this was some kind of trap. Maybe it was a new way of robbing a store? Only, why would someone want to rob a tattoo parlor?
I heard a huge sigh before the lights flickered on forcing me to shield my eyes and squint. With hands on her hips, my best friend Harper Torrez glared at me. Her long blonde hair swayed with her movements as she walked over to me. When she narrowed her blue eyes, I took a step back. “Why are you acting like a crazy person?”
Harper growled in annoyance. “This is a surprise party, Fallon! You worked all day, and it ruined my plans at your apartment, so we brought it here.” She grinned, gesturing to the group of people behind her.
Angling my head so I could look around her, I frowned. “Who are they?”
She shrugged, staring at the small crowd that was now shifting around uncomfortably. “I found them. They wanted cake.”
