TRAINING and CARING FOR OUR PHYSICAL EMOTIONAL and MENTAL BODIES FOR EFFECTIVE SERVICE
As we grow in service, we shift our focus away from satisfying only our personal self to the larger issues of service as a group in regards to some of the world’s problems. This indicates an increasing effect of the power our soul entering our physical, emotional, and mental bodies. Alice Bailey says in Esoteric Psychology Volume II, This stage will in some cases fan into flame the latent seeds of ambition. This ambition is, in the last analysis, only the personality urge towards betterment, and in its right place and time is a divine asset, but it has to be rooted out when the personality becomes the instrument of the soul. On the other hand, we may begin focusing less on our own ambition and work in greater harmony with our chosen groups. This foreshadows the beginning of true service where we lose sense of self for the greater good of the group purpose, which can serve a world purpose.
When increased soul force enters our physical body increasing our ability to be of service, we need to see we get sufficient sleep, wholesome food, and rest when necessary or else we may experience illness or nervous strain.
The next step requires healing and taking charge of our emotional body or else we stay trapped and spinning round and round in emotional suffering or caught up in endless power plays or emotional dramas with other individuals or group members. We learn how to flow with our angers, fears, or agony without either suppressing or drowning in them, as has been demonstrated by methods in this book. Methods have also been given to heal emotions such as depression, grief or self-pity that have been repressed in the past and trapped in our physical bodies. This training and purification of our emotional body allows it to become still, clear, and calm as a pool without any ripples. Then we can proceed in a state of neutrality on our path of service without the upset of emotional reactions.
Finally, we need to develop our mental body for service with knowledge, which in time will become a stable foundation for the wisdom from our soul. In addition, we develop steadying and focus of our lower mind through regular meditation practice. As Alice Bailey says in Esoteric Psychology Volume II, As the work of learning to serve proceeds, and the inner contact becomes more sure, the next thing which will occur, will be a deepening of the life of meditation, and a more frequent illumining of the mind by the light of the soul. Thereby the Plan is revealed.
Without the illumination of the soul, we stay stuck in our mental illusions and limited paradigms of unreality.
Stilling our emotional body creates receptivity to compassion from our soul. Stilling our mental body creates receptivity to our higher mind of intuition and inspiration.
