HEALING PHYSICAL PAIN
Pain remains trapped in our physical bodies until we become ready to look at and heal the emotional causes behind much of the pain. According to Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now, pain will continue to occur as long as we remain unaware. He considers emotional pain, The main cause of physical pain and physical disease.
Tolle continues to explain that the intensity of pain we create depends on our unconscious resistance to experiencing the pain in the present moment. He also says that the resistance, On the emotional level, it is some form of negativity.
Tolle continues. If you keep your attention in the body as much as possible, you will be anchored in the Now. Remember, I mentioned Eugene Gendlin’s focusing method in chapter 4. This develops awareness of our “felt senses” in our body, moment by moment.
When we learn to surrender to the present moment and feel our pain fully at its inner core we experience according to Tolle, An unfathomable sense of peace. And within that peace, there is great joy. And within that joy, there is love.
Robert Stevens, Consciousness Language, has discovered also in transforming our unconscious language into conscious language, love lies at the other side of transformed physical pain, contraction. Robert says, By changing one word within ourselves, we expand, contract or alter our consciousness.
In the Diamond in your Pocket, spiritual teacher Gangaji talks about the difference between pain and suffering. She says, We feel pain in our physical bodies. Suffering is spread over time and must be accompanied by some story about the pain. Suffering results from contraction around pain. When we choose to open our minds, meet and feel the pain in the moment, rather than resisting, then we discover in the heart of the pain, love which heals.
