You can bet someone is stealing something, some time or some resource from your business.
Occupational theft is a billion dollar industry in and of itself. Every year global organizations face the challenge of minimizing the loss of inventory, goods and financial standing. Numerous measures have been implemented but with the onset of the global financial recession, people have become even more desperate and innovative in their methods to siphon off company funds. Countries continue to suffer including the US, UK, Europe, Australia and Jamaica.
Thieves in the Workplace also examines the occurrence of on the job theft in an urban multi-disciplinary tertiary institution in Jamaica and strategies are then recommended that can be implemented to deter perpetrators from repeating the violation.
Denise N. Fyffe was born in Jamaica; she is a child of the eighties, the last era where mankind was more into values than temporal vanity. She attended Harbour View Primary and Camperdown High before exploring further educational studies in Computer Programming, Counselling and Education. Denise has a myriad of talents and abilities; however, her one constant passion is writing. Her focus has always been on giving a voice to the human condition and being a constant and ever present witness; a ‘penman’ to all the secrets and tragedies of life. Denise is also a board member of the Jamaican Writers Society.

Thieves in the Workplace
It was the third time this month that Yvonne found something missing from her desk, her purse or her bag. She was sick and tired of playing victim and suffering from this injustice. What could she do? There had been other thefts and nothing came of it; the culprit was too smart and management did not care about her missing stapler, tablet or $500. She did not know how long she could continue to work under such conditions, before blindly seeking revenge herself, while losing her moral compass. Something needed to be done; proper security measures need to be implemented so that she could leave her personal belongings at her desk and not worry when she went off to teach her classes. It was too burdensome to lug her handbag all over campus
