Foundation or concealer may be applied in either order, just be careful that if you are applying foundation after concealer not to wipe the concealer away. Sponges, brush or fingers may be used. I prefer using a brush as it spreads quite nicely and you have control over the concealed areas.
If you need to find a good color of foundation, apply near the jaw and neck as this will blend in perfectly. That line around the chin is called a demarcation line and should be avoided at all costs.
It is also great to have a spring/summer, fall/winter selection of foundations as tans in the summer come and go.
Make sure to apply foundation to eyelids as this will help the eye shadow stay put and prevent creasing.
After the foundation is applied, make sure it is fully blended and applied under the chin and slightly on the neck.
If you have large pores, a really simple technique is to use a foundation brush (I find the liquid foundation brush by CoverFX works best – apply foundation on the face and use quick stipple movements to fill in pores for a virtually flawless complexion.
Personal Favorite Foundation – Benefit Foundation Faker
(For Caucasian skin) The company named Benefit has a very light foundation called some kind-a gorgeous. It is great for skin that is healthy and has few imperfections. It provides an even veil of makeup that feels like nothing at all, but manages to hide minor imperfections so well. The vintage packaging is also super cute. www.benefitcosmetics.com
Personal Favorite Foundation – face atelier ultra pro foundation

Foundation for Darker Skin Tones
Personal Favorite – Black opal
I personally love Black Opal. There is a reason the company has been around since the 1970's. Their colour selections as well as coverage is superb. This makeup line features foundations, concealers, and powders as well as specialty shaving products for men of different ethnicities. www.blackopalbeauty.com
Foundation is also very important to try on for color and texture reasons. Make sure to get a few samples so you will be able to check the color in the daylight as the store lights may augment the results from daylight and other lighting.
Moisturizing Tint is great for women that have great skin. It also gives you the added protection of SPF and evens out skin nicely. It is so light that it feels like you are wearing nothing at all, yet makes skin look perfect and glowing. www.maccosmetics.com
Powder is used to set the foundation. Use only a little as it goes a long way. Most foundations today are amazing at staying put, and a little glow looks fresh and youthful. Take a brush or a puff and powder only the tip of the nose, chin and forehead. Make sure that first you shake all of the residual powder off the brush. Signs that you have added too much powder include skin looking very flat and unnatural. The powder may also creep into lines and make them look more noticeable.
If you would like a shortcut, there are many great makeup lines that combine a 2-1 (cream to powder) that create amazing results as well. M.A.C, Dermablend, Shiseido as well as Cover FX all do this.
Adding a little bit of shimmer cream along the upper cheekbones will create an even lovelier glow. This should not be used on mature skin as shimmer will only highlight creases.
Personal Favorite – Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation
I find it goes on very light, yet completely diminishes shine and leaves a smooth matte finish. It is also great for mature skin as it does not creep into wrinkles. Available in 24 different shades.
