Ethan Fosters stepped out of the school doors. He had just finished
rehearsing and preparing the school hall for his class’s valedictory
service tomorrow. He was the last to leave due to the extra work the
principal had decided to give him. He looked at his watch, it was five
minutes past seven.
The Albany wind blew his blond curly hair. He walked past the silent
streets, which was rarely found in New York. No wonder this city was
the capital. He sat at the bus stop and waited for the bus to come by
when his phone rang. It was his foster mother Amy.
“Yeah?” he asked.
“Have you finished with school?” She asked.
“Yes Amy, I have.” Ethan said refusing to call his foster mother
“Do you want me to pick you up?” she asked.
“No, I’ll take the bus home.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes Amy, I am. Is that all?”
“Be safe.” She said and then hung up.
The bus arrived shortly after. The bus driver was a fat, pale man who
looked like he could use the sun. Ethan swiped his bus pass and looked
for an empty seat which wasn’t hard to find considering that he was the
only one on the bus.

He sat in the far back and put on his headphones as the bus driver drove
the bus away. After five minutes, the bus started to shake gaining
Ethan’s attention. The bus pulled over and stopped. Ethan looked at his
“It seems we have a little problem, it’s probably the engine. Please wait
while I check it out. The engine probably needs to cool down, this won’t
take long.” The bus driver said. Ethan sighed as the bus driver got off
the bus. Ethan then decided to text Amy to tell her that he’ll be running
late. He didn’t really like talking to Ben and Amy.
After ten minutes, Ethan got fed up and decided to leave. As he got off
the bus, the bus driver stopped him. “Hey, where you going?” he asked.
“I’ve decided to walk home.” Ethan replied.
“Just wait a bit more, another bus should arrive soon.”
“No thanks, I prefer to walk.” Ethan said as he walked away, ignoring
the bus drivers plea for him to come back.
Ethan got home nine o’clock. Amy had called earlier and he told her he
would walk. Then she kept calling until Ethan switched off his phone.
She would probably scold him but that would be all. He looked at the
night sky and saw a beautiful new moon alone in the sky. Odd, the new
moon was meant to appear the next day.
9:01. He unlocked the door and entered the dark house. He tried to
switch on the lights but nothing happened. “Amy, Ben, I’m home!” he
shouted but no one answered.
“If this is some sort of birthday surprise, stop. I already told you that I
didn’t want a party!” he shouted but still no reply.

He walked into the living room and then towards the kitchen where they
kept the flashlights when he stepped on something wet. He picked up the
flash light from the counter and shun it on what he stepped on. It was
9:02 p.m. The alarm on Ethan’s phone rang. He had set it for the time of
his birth; 9:02 p.m. A jolt of pain fired on his left arm. He dropped the
flash light and fell. He held his arm in pain for what seemed like hours
but was only a minute. The pain then faded. Ethan was about to pick up
the torch when he saw where the torch’s light had shun at.
Amy and Ben sat on the floor, bodies ripped to shreds and blood flowing
like a river from their bodies. He picked up his torch in disbelief as he
stared at the corpses. He then heard a sound behind him. He quickly
looked behind him and saw nothing.
He turned back to look at the corpses when he saw a figure instead. He
fell back when he saw the figure. A black four legged beast with
tentacles coming out of its body and two bloody red eyes staring right at
him. His instincts kicked in and one thought entered his mind.
Ethan quickly picked himself up and ran out of the kitchen as the
creature chased him. He slammed the kitchen door but the creature
easily broke through the door. Ethan toppled the T.V. and the coffee
table. He rearranged the living room as he ran. He had blocked the
creature but he knew that the furniture wouldn’t be enough to hold the
He ran out of the house into the silent street. He planned on calling the
neighbors when he saw a silhouette on the streets. The light from the
moon prevented him from seeing the silhouettes face.

“You Fool. Wait, I told you to wait. You refused, I then had to follow
you without you catching on. Don’t you know how hard it is for
someone with my figure to do that?” the silhouette asked.
“You’re the bus driver.” Ethan said.
“Correction, I was the bus driver. Now, I’m the guy who gets to chop
you to bits.” He said and drew his fangs. The bus driver rushed at him in
super speed but Ethan was able to dodge him and run. The bus driver
“That’s the thing with you Fools. You like the chase. You can run but
you can’t hide. You’re destined to die.” The bus driver said and then
Ethan ran into an alley hoping to be able to hide from the bus driver or
whatever he was.
“I’m not stupid Fool, I know you’re in the alley.” he said and appeared
in front of Ethan. “Guess what, so am I.”
“You, you’re a vampire.” Ethan said.
“That’s right, and I have come to suck your blood.” He said with a
“Why me?” Ethan asked.
Before the vampire could answer, a dark blade came out of the shadows
and pierced him through the heart. He coughed blood as another blade
pierced through his head. The vampire disintegrated and the blades
faded into the shadows.
A figure then stepped out of the shadows. He was muscular with raven
black hair and soulless dark eyes. “Are you okay?” He asked. ‘I’m here

“There’s something inside my house.” Ethan said and a loud sound was
“I guess it’s no longer in your house. Wait here.” He said as he headed
towards the direction of the noise. Ethan could have sworn that the
shadows where following him. Ethan wanted to see what would happen
and decided to head off towards his house against any sensible
He watched as the man engaged the creature in a fight and it seemed like
the man was using the shadows to attack the figure. Ethan couldn’t
believe what he was seeing, there was no way in hell that this was
The creature then gained the upper hand and slapped the man towards
one of the houses. “No!” Ethan shouted gaining the creatures attention.
The creature rushed at Ethan and all the man could do was watch. He
knew he wouldn’t be able to get to Ethan in time. As the creature rushed
at Ethan, his adrenaline rose. In that instant, Ethan’s eyes became
golden. A small, golden dome surrounded Ethan and then began to
The figure entered the dome and immediately disintegrated. The dome
stopped spreading an inch away from the man. The man could feel heat
like no other. It was like someone mixed lightning and fire together. The
man knew that if he decided to touch the dome, he would lose his hand.
The dome faded. Ethan looked around to see what he had done. The
creature was gone and the neighborhood was still in one piece. All
except for his house. He looked at the man who seemed shocked. Before
Ethan could open his mouth to speak, the world went black.
