We walked down by the river to my favourite cafe and took a seat. I wasn’t particularly hungry so I only ordered something relatively small.
‘I enjoyed our last chat.’
‘So did I. You’re nice to talk to.’
She smiled.
‘Thank you, so are you. First time in a while that I’ve actually spoken to someone in person. Always been by the internet. It was nice.’
I chuckled.
‘Well, thank you. I didn’t think that I could make such an impression.’
She shrugged.
‘For someone like me who hasn’t had a friend in a while it’s nice to have someone to talk to.’
Then she chuckled as well.
‘I’m going to have to write about you now.’
I laughed.
‘You’ll have to let me read it if you do.’
‘If you like. There’s one thing that I know I’ll definitely be including.’
‘What’s that?’
Our drinks arrived at that point. After a quick sip of hers, she replied.
‘She felt a connection with him and knew that she’d found a new friend.’
She raised her glass.
‘Friends?’
I raised my glass to hers.
‘Definitely friends.’
We smiled at each other. As simple as that I found myself with a new friend.
