Rion and Sena went home to get a good night’s sleep, knowing there would be few of them until the spacecraft was completed. Lying in bed, Sena took Rion’s hand. “We’ve discussed this before, but now that the Council has approved our project, I want to ask you again. Would you agree for us to be the chosen couple to make the journey if Menor determined that we were the ones that should make it? You know that’s what he wants.”
“No, my love; I prefer to remain here with our families and friends. I’ve told him that numerous times. I could not bear the burden of knowing that I survived and the entire population of this planet didn’t.”
Sena rolled over and laid her arm across Rion’s chest and hugged him. “I know that’s how you feel; I just wanted to hear you say it again. You know I feel the same.”
Rion smiled. “You don’t have to stay behind with me. We could pair you with another male.”
Sena frowned “I never want to hear that idea from you again. There is no other male for me but you. It’s taken me long enough to learn to get along with you, I don’t want to have to do that again. Besides, there’s not that much time left.”
