Her plans were set slightly askew when she got to her cabin and found Javisk, Plenk, and Sinvara waiting for her. She had forgotten she had agreed to meet them immediately after her first session. She briefly contemplated keeping up the facade she had maintained on the walk here; to keep up the strong leader impression. But as the door slid shut behind her she changed her mind and slumped back against it.
Plenk immediately frowned in concern. “Are you not well, my Roh?” he queried as he jumped up to give her assistance if she needed it.
She waved him off. “My dear Commander Plenk. I think it is well time you know that all captains often use their closed door this way” she said with a small grin as she pushed off the door. “It is rather hard work keeping up appearances sometimes. You try being an infallible goddess all the time and see how much energy you have at the end of the day!”
Plenk looked a little shocked as the casualness of her words and nearly jumped out of his skin when she patted his shoulder fondly as she walked past to where the other two were sitting at her table.
Javisk just chuckled and reached for the lid of a large tray on the table. Her stomach clenched a bit wondering what she was in store for her this time.
He waved away the beginnings of her glare. “I well know the trials of skimming through the minds of these Terrans. Remember I did it for over a hundred years. So I bring you a treat guaranteed to bolster your energy! The newest craze from our chefs!” With that he whipped off the lid to reveal what lay inside.
Arranged on the tray were a large number of what at first looked like small cooked loaves of bread. But they were covered with what looked like a clear slime, and there was a crusty, white substance oozing from the end of each one. There was no real smell that she could detect. Over top all of them was drizzled what look like dried veins of blood. She completed her glare and turned its full force on Javisk. She was too tired and in no mood for one of his jokes.
“Peace my Roh! On my honor no prank. See?” And he picked up one of the items. She could see the clear substance drip off of it slightly. When he bit into it, the white substance oozed out of the sides. He chewed and swallowed with evident relish.
She looked to the other two in the room, but they were of no help. But challenge had been laid. She shook her head and reached for one of them.
The coating was slimy, making her grip the squishy object tighter. Which had the effect of making the white stuff start to ooze out. Taking a grip on her stomach she quickly bit off a bite. She had decided to hell with protocol; she was going to spit it his face if it tasted half as bad as it looked and felt.
Then the taste hit her. The brown roll was just that; a sweet and moist cake of some kind. But the rest; the slimy clear coating, the white filling, the red strands. They were all different types of pure sweet flavors. They quickly overloaded her taste-buds and then just as quickly demanded more. She quickly chewed the first bite and swallowed, and took another larger bite, completely unconcerned about the white filling squishing against the outside of her face except to scoop it into her mouth with her free fingers. By the time she had swallowed the second bite she could feel the warmth radiating from her stomach, letting her know that it was pumping energy back into her.
She turned wide-eyed to Javisk. “By the Maker’s dulcet voice! What are these things?” and immediately took another even larger bite, finishing the one in her hand.
Javisk smiled broadly, happy for the reaction. “One of the greatest and deadliest creations made by that race. They call them ‘doughnuts’.”
