John Hopkins was a promising reporter for the Los Angeles Times, he had lived in Los Angeles his whole life and had a fascination for the original history of the city. He was especially interested in the East Los area, or what is better known as the original part of Los Angeles.
John had been doing his own research for several years now, trying to put the pieces of the city’s history together, while in hopes he would find someone living in East Los Angeles area, which could fill in the missing parts he did not have. He was not interested in half-truths, he wanted to know the real story about the Hispanic population and how it evolved into the mess it was in today. He was in search of someone who was born in East Los and lived there the whole time.
Los Angeles has a large gang population dating back to the early 1900’s. John knew the California’s gang era started with the Hispanics in East Los. It has since grown to 450 identified gangs with over 45,000 individuals encompassing all ethnic groups. John has been spending a lot of time searching for that right person, who could relay the history of the East Los story to him.
