Writing in Community is a book of inspiration and encouragement for writers who want to reach deep within themselves and write to their fullest potential. There is magic in a successful writing group. This book helps writers tap into that magic, and with gentle wisdom and humor, experience unprecedented breakthroughs in creativity.
Becky's writing group has meant a lot to her. She loves the energy and synchronicity of using the generative process in the writing group to take her creativity to new heights. A longtime educator, poet and essayist, Becky draws the inspiration for her writing from the magic and wisdom of being present in the world. The strength and beauty of people continue to amaze her, and their guidance has been her best teacher. Her book, co-authored with Lucy Adkins, Writing in Community: Say Goodbye to Writer's Block and Transform Your Life, won the 2014 Silver Independent Publishers Award in Writing/Publishing. We all have the ability to create, to generate something new and different in this big universe of ours. Sometimes, we forget that it's not only our offering, but it's our responsibility to use our gifts. So when a blue-striped story wells up from deep inside - and you're red - pay attention. It's all part of you you are.
Writing in Community
The universe in which we live is immense. There are countless stars, birds, insects, animals, trees, specks of dust and droplets of water. We cannot comprehend its enormity and its magnificence, how it multiplies and enlarges itself, how it works to go on and on. The yellow spotted salamander lays its eggs in the water, and a hundred baby salamanders come into being; a maple tree sends out its helicopter seeds and thousands of maples sprout, some many miles away. The power underlying creation needs salamanders and maples, and that same power, we believe, has a need for the creativity that comes from the human soul—our paintings, our music, our poems, short stories, and novels—and will work with us and through us so that they can be created. We are not alone in the creativity game; we are in league with a powerful ally, and if we hang in there, there are no limits to what will flow from our pens.
