Max followed as the queen led Jemima, Joe and Charlie into Tutankhamun’s chamber. He hung back uncertainly before entering the room behind them. This was the man he’d dreaded encountering when they came to Egypt.

The young man turned to greet them, but his first words were drowned out by an almighty wail as Max spotted the king’s legs. All he could see from ground level was the bandage wrapped around the injury caused by the crocodile and he ran from the room howling in fright. Ankharet, concealed from view behind her mistress, tutted to herself as she rolled her eyes in scorn. What in the name of Bastet was wrong with that stupid cat now, for goodness sake?
