It was at this point that the cat-and-mouse games began. Have you ever watched a cat and a mouse? The mouse is usually minding her own business going about her little mouse life when out of nowhere the big bad cat pounces and scoops up the mouse. It seems like the pounce is out of nowhere but really the cat has been watching the mouse for a long time, planning and scheming and waiting for the perfect moment to scoop up the little mouse. The mouse doesn’t know what hit her, she’s completely shocked. The cat doesn’t hurt the mouse physically at first but holds it in its mouth for a while and carries it around and has complete control over the mouse. The mouse is defenseless. Eventually the cat will let the mouse go just to chase it again. Sometimes with a bunch of wiggling and some strategy the mouse gets away on her own efforts, only to be caught again. This is a strange and terrifying experience for the mouse but the cat is enjoying himself. The cat takes great sadistic pleasure from tormenting the mouse, sometimes batting it around then holding it down, then batting it around some more. The mouse gets momentary freedom here and there, and dashes away as quickly as possible, only to be caught once again. This can go on for what seems like eternity for the mouse.
Eventually the cat will injure the mouse intentionally and the mouse’s attempts to get away will become feeble. Often the mouse will become injured and traumatized to the point of complete submission. The cat lets go of the mouse and the mouse just sits there. That’s a sad mental state for the mouse when there’s no more fight left in her. There are those rare occasions when the mouse gets away for good but usually the mouse is tormented, ripped apart until death, and then eaten.
Looking back I have to wonder if Greg had me drive my Nova to New York so that I wouldn’t have a car and he could buy me one over which he would have control. Then I think that Greg convinced me to get rid of Chris so that there was no one around who was my confidant, my friend. No one would be around who would be loyal to me more than him no matter what, someone who couldn’t be bought. I’m pretty sure today that these two things are true but I could even go a step further and wonder if Greg paid off Charlie to fuck up my garden so that I would be forced to be more financially dependent on him. I’m not sure about that one but I do believe it’s possible. At the time I didn’t think any of these things were his carefully crafted manipulative strategies to gain control over me. Back then I couldn’t imagine someone would intentionally do something detrimental to the person he cared about in order to gain control. I now know that there are some very sick fucked-up people in this world and Greg is one of them.
