Danny ran towards the civilians but before he could get into position, the behemoths began their attack. The guardian built up some ice energy into his hands, and aimed at the path of the attack. The ground became covered in a thick blanket of ice.
The creatures stumbled on the ice. They desperately tried to stay upright, but their balance did not last. The behemoths plummeted to the ground and kept sliding.
Danny noticed the people had not moved. He quickly shot two fire balls knocking the sliding creatures off course.
Danny ran up to the group. “Run!”
They didn't move. They were staring at the animals that were getting back to their feet. Danny grabbed the officer.
“Take these people out of here now! Do it!”
“What the hell were those things?”
“It doesn’t matter,” shouted Danny. “You need to get these people to safety. I’ll hold them off.”
The officer was frozen in fear of the now recovering creatures.
“Go!” shouted Danny. “Don’t stop, don’t look back.”
The officer finally snapped back to reality, and gathered the civilians up. They started running up the street.
The behemoths rose scanning the area, realized that the group of prey had been reduced to a single person and slowly began to circle.
One of the behemoths roared, and both simultaneously charged towards their target. Danny waited until both were near him before taking a giant leap into the air.
As Danny came down, he brought his sword with him onto the neck of the closest behemoth. Like hot knife through butter, the Stormbringer severed the creature’s head. The headless body rolled over in a pool of its own blood before dying. A cloud of green mist formed over the body. Danny looked around for its partner. The other creature had run past the guardian and began to turn.
Danny charged his sword with as much ice energy as possible then, like a spear, threw it impacting the behemoth. The creature was now reduced to solid mass of ice. Its eyes were still wide with panic. Danny walked up and pulled his sword from the ice before balling his fist and slamming it into the behemoth. The creature’s body shattered into ice fragments and mist.
