“We need to be careful not to get lost,” said Max.
Brody’s eyes widened. Lost. He certainly did not want to become lost in an underground cave. He felt claustrophobic. Brody tugged on the collar of his shirt and inhaled deeply.
“We still don’t know how to get home,” said Emma.
The door to the tiny home opened as Aspen and the Major General trotted through. “All clear,” he announced.
Max took a deep breath and turned to Emma. “First, we get the fluorite.”
“Then let’s go,” said Brody.
The kids gathered the area maps and the field notebook and tucked them neatly into their belts. Emma and Brody headed out the front door behind Aspen, with Max taking the rear. Out of the corner of his eye, Brody saw the Major General grab Max’s arm to stop her from leaving the house. He stopped just outside the door and peeked in to see what was happening.
“You must make sure they get home,” Pappy hissed in Max’s ear.
“I know,” she exclaimed. Brody saw Max jerk her arm away from Pappy just as Emma screamed.
