Oda closed the door, and leaned back against it. She looked at Elton as he stood in front of her. Her smile was now replaced with a look of concern. Elton leaned back against the wall opposite the door, grasping for something to say. They stood there momentarily, like two boxers in their neutral corners, waiting for the bell to sound before pummeling each other.
“I had a dream about you a few nights ago Elton.”
“Oh really? Was I any good?” Elton said with a laugh.
“Same old Elton," she said. "You were in trouble, desperate for help.”
“What kind of trouble?” Elton said.
“I don’t know, you tell me.”
“It’s your dream Oda. How would I know?”
“So why are you here, unexpected, I might add.” She looked him over. “It appears that you’ve slept in your clothes.”
“Some hostess you are. How about making an old friend feel welcomed. Can I please use your bathroom before I answer your questions?”
“Forgive me,” she said as she led Elton from the vestibule.
