“Raymond said he was on his way to get you, but I understand, he procrastinates like his father,” she joked.
“I reckon,” Kayla said apprehensively. She glanced over at Mr. Jenson who did not seem amused by his wife’s comment.
“Well, Kayla, you know when you’re here, you’re home, so treat yourself to the food in the kitchen and drinks are over by the bar.”
Once Mrs. Jenson smiled and walked off, Kayla sat down while noticing Mr. Jenson staring intensely at his wife.
He was acting particularly strange and making her feel uncomfortable. He finally got up and disappeared toward the front. She finally looked down at her phone and saw that Raymond had not called. How was Raymond on his way to pick her up when he hadn’t even called to tell her he was on his way?
About thirty minutes went by and there was still no sign of Raymond. Kayla continued to mingle with a few of Raymond’s cousins while having a few cocktails. Just as she was finishing her fourth drink, Erica walked her way with a handsome gentleman by her side.
“Hey, Kayla, are you enjoying the party?” Erica asked.
“Yeah, I think it’s nice. It is always good to be around good people and good food,” Kayla responded.
“Excuse my manners, Kayla, this is my good friend Bryan.”
“Hello, Kayla, how are you?” Bryan asked as he reached out his hand to finalize the introduction.
“I’m good, can’t complain,” Kayla responded smiling as she embraced his gesture. He was even more handsome up close. He had a brown paper-bag skin tone, a low haircut with waves that would make anyone sea sick, and his smile had Kayla secretly melting.
