Life is All About Living and Learning from Our Mistakes.
The following poem, “Living and Learning”, is the central theme of this entire book which makes this particular poem the cornerstone upon which this book is written. We all have a destiny, and I truly believe that every choice we make and every mistake we encounter is meant to help us along life’s way.
The more we struggle, the more we learn that so many things are truly out of our control so we must let go and let God take over when we are unable to handle life on our own. We live and learn, and then we live and learn some more. It is so true that not only does life go on, but the lessons we come to appreciate shape our hearts and strengthen our spirits so we can keep living and learning to our full potential.
Living and Learning
I was writing a book about all
The lessons I had learned.
Somewhere along the way I was reminded
Of the times I had been hurt.
When I reflected back on the past
To a time when life was hard,
Somehow I knew God had given me
The strength to make it this far.
I prayed often and asked God
To help give me some kind of sign.
He just remained silent and whispered
You have to learn from your mistakes this time.
Frustrated and confused because of
All the setbacks I had faced,
The determination within me kept growing
To remain strong and not run away.
As I looked deep within to figure out
What choices I should pursue,
Even with a broken heart at times,
I knew I was meant to learn a lesson or two.
No matter which way I looked and
No matter what path I chose to travel,
I had to face the fact that sometimes
Life may come unraveled.
Encouraged to keep fighting when
Everything around me seemed to fall apart,
I just kept the faith that one day God would
Help heal my forever wounded heart.
At times when life was crazy and all
The voices of despair tried to break me down,
I just had to believe that one day the chaos
Would give way to a more peaceful sound.
After being torn so much from
Left to right and side to side,
All I knew was I needed to trust
There are times I don’t need to ask why.
During my journeys when sailing against the storm
Seemed the right thing to do,
I could still hear God’s voice whisper
Trust your instincts and life will be good to you.
After every page I turned in
My own book called life,
The chapters that were the hardest to read
Were the ones marked with tremendous strife.
Even when I found myself crying
Because the words were so hard to read,
I just prayed hard and ask God to give
My broken spirit fresh, serene air to breathe.
I often am reminded of the lessons I have learned
Throughout the time I have been alive.
As much as I embrace the good memories
I often am haunted by the moments I wanted to die.
As I write a few more chapters in the story
Of one’s soul journey to be loved and protected forever,
My heart finds peace in an agape kind of love
That lives within a kindred spirit God gave me to treasure.
