Sometimes I feel unhappy, but my mom tells me “Be happy because God made us different." Kids at school call me ugly and fat. I have no friends and I sit alone at lunch. I make good grades on my school work, but kids call me a nerd. I come home all the time and cry because I feel so alone. My mom would tell me “God made you in the image he wants you to be, so you are beautiful on the inside and out, God will send you someone just as beautiful as you are and you will become best of friends." One day my teacher, Mrs. Worthy introduced Cindy to the class. “Amanda", Mrs. Worthy called to me. “Would you like to show Cindy around?” she pointed towards me. I was a bit shy but I said, “I can." Mrs. Worthy told Cindy to have a seat in the empty desk right next to me. I showed Cindy where we put our belongings as she sat down. At lunch time, I showed Cindy the lunch line and told her she could sit anywhere she wanted. “Can I sit with you?” Cindy asked. I was very nervous but I said “O.K." “Do you have other friends that sit with you?” Cindy asked to me. I told her I didn't have any friends because they all like to make fun of me. "At my old school I had no friends either because they made fun of my teeth." I thought she looked very nice, I really didn't see anything wrong with her teeth. Cindy and I talked through lunch. She liked a lot of things I did. After school, as I was walking in the hall, Cindy ran up to me. "Can I sit with you at lunch tomorrow," Cindy called out. "Sure", I said. "Cool see you tomorrow", Cindy said as we departed.
"How was your day sweetheart?" my mom asked. "We have a new student in class", I told my mom. I told her how I showed Cindy around and how she sat next to me during lunch. I also told her how we talked and how she liked many things I did. "Wow, seems like a very beautiful person like you", my mom told me. Over the next few days at school, Cindy sat with me at lunch and sat with me after school while we wait for our moms to pick us up. One Friday after school, Cindy asked, "Would you like to come over tomorrow, you can ask your mom and I'll ask mine?" "Sure", I told her. As soon as I arrived home I asked my mom. "Sure, you can go. I'll call her mom and we'll discuss everything. Seems as if someone has a new friend." The next day my mom took me to her house and met her mother and soon told me good-bye. Cindy and I talked all day. We talked about her old school, how kids were really mean to her and called her different. "My mom always tell me be happy, God made us different", I told Cindy. "I tell her the same", Cindy's mom interrupted. "I was seeing if you girls are O.K?" Cindy's mom added. We told her we were O.K and continued talking. We found out we liked the same movie, classes, songs, and going to church. "Do you want to be best friends?" she asked. "I thought you never asked?" I smiled. "We'll be best friends forever", Cindy yelled. We both laughed. As the years past we went to the same school and even had some of the same classes. We always ate lunch together and waited together after school, and we visited each other every weekend. Kids started to think we were sisters. We started to go to each other's church and visit each Sunday. She was closer than a sister or brother could be. If we had a disagreement we always made up. Even our moms became close, and they would spend time with us together. My mother was right, God will send the right person for me if I just believe, be happy and wait. We are different but there is someone special for us all in each part of our lives. All I wanted was at least one friend that fulfilled everything I ever wanted in a friend. We became lifelong friends she was always there when I needed her for any situation in my life, and I was there for her. God sent me my true best friend.
“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24
