Helen took a sip of wine, then lifted the heavy turkey out of the oven and set the pan on the counter. While transporting the turkey to a platter, the doorbell rang. “Get that, will you, Sam? My hands are full."
Sam opened the front door and welcomed in his brother and sister-in-law with Robert and Edward close behind. Robert walked with a cane and Edward had a bandaged splint on the little finger of his left hand. “Welcome, welcome!” Sam shouted to his guests in an attempt to be heard above the roar of the wind and the flurry of leaves blowing in through the open door.
Taking off her coat, Marion said, “It sure smells grand in here. I’ve always said that the best part of Thanksgiving is the wonderful aroma of sage and stuffing coming from the kitchen. I’ll go see if I can help Helen.”
