Suddenly something raced into the drain. “Run for it, guys!” barked an old dog. “Coyotes are chasing me!”
Koko and Moochee didn’t know what a coyote was, but they ran after the old dog.
“What are coyotes?” hollered Koko.
“They’re kind of like us, but they’re mean critters. They usually travel in a pack, and if they catch you, they’ll kill and eat you. I saw three of them following me. Let’s head for the car park. The coyotes won’t go there, and all we have to watch out for are the cars.”
“What’s your name?” asked Koko. “My name is Koko and my friend here is Moochee.”
“My name is Scratchy,” answered the old dog. “The car park is good for finding food. People park their cars there, and other people bring food to their cars. They’ll throw food on the ground, but you have to be quick or the birds will get it.”
